Established as the state support office in 2012, Habitat for Humanity South Carolina is a nonprofit housing organization that brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. The affiliate support organization expands the capacity of 29 local affiliates through advocacy, resource development, education and training, and disaster services. Habitat affiliates have built, rehabilitated, or repaired 4,544 homes across 37 counties since 1978.
Founded in Americus, Georgia in 1976, Habitat for Humanity International operates in all 50 states and in 70 countries. Habitat has helped build, renovate, and repair more than 600,000 decent, affordable houses through the work of thousands of local affiliate organizations.
In South Carolina, 1 in 8 households spend more than half of their income on housing. We have to take a stand and declare our commitment. The Cost of Home campaign aims to increase home affordability by influencing policies focused on:
- Increasing supply and preservation of affordable homes
- Equitably increasing access to credit
- Optimizing land use for affordable homes
- Ensuring access to and development of communities of opportunity.
