Habitat Chat

Ink drawing of a house

Pickens Habitat brings people together to build community! Since 1981, we've helped neighbors achieve the safety and security that can be found in affordable homeownership. We couldn't do this without the help of our local community and caring partners.

Read on to learn more about the impact we've made through the years with the help of generous donors and dedicated volunteers.

Building Brotherhood: Chi Phi Fraternity Joins Habitat to Bring Homes to Life

Four Chi Phi fraternity members proudly standing on the porch of a house they helped bring to life, smiling and celebrating their community service efforts. The image captures their camaraderie and commitment to giving back.

Dating back to 1824, the Chi Phi Fraternity takes the name as the oldest social fraternity. We strive to build better men through brotherhood, social events, and professionalism while upholding our values of truth, honor, and personal integrity. - https://www.clemsonifc.com/chi-phi

The Chi Phi fraternity at Clemson University excels in positively impacting their community. Habitat for Humanity is grateful for their dedication after members volunteered at the Homecoming build for the second consecutive year. On October 26, twenty-five Chi Phi brothers visited another Habitat construction site and got to work on the house, building stairs, painting the interior, power washing and cleaning—all in support of our mission in Pickens County.

Liam Davis, Chi Phi’s Historian and a junior construction science major at Clemson, was elated to share his, and his chapter’s, passion for volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. “We enjoy being out there,” he says. “A lot of guys really enjoy building and just helping out, working on houses and in construction… But really we just look for every opportunity we can to get involved with community service and get active in our community.”

Chi Phi has contributed numerous volunteer hours to various projects throughout the year, but their work with Habitat allows them to channel their passion for service and construction to make real progress on homes. This time, they spent about four hours on-site, helping us advance closer to the goal of providing more affordable homes for families in need.

“Knowing that we're making the lives of another family better is a really good feeling, and the fact that we're out there together, all contributing, it really makes it feel more special.”

Davis shared that Habitat for Humanity gives Chi Phi an opportunity to not only give back to the community, but to learn the importance of service as a fraternity. He hopes that more students will be inspired to serve their community through Habitat for Humanity.

“It’s a really fulfilling experience … knowing you're helping somebody out, and that rewarding feeling is easily the best part, which is why someone should get involved with Habitat for Humanity.”

Thank you to all the members of Chi Phi for making a tremendous impact on their community. We look forward to seeing what incredible contributions they will make in the years to come. Their dedication, passion and teamwork not only help build homes for their neighbors, but also inspire others to get involved and make a difference.
