2024 Community Partner Award: Forrest Movers

For more than 10 years, Forrest Movers has been the driving force—quite literally—behind one of Pickens County Habitat for Humanity’s most cherished traditions: the Clemson University Homecoming Build. Each year, Clemson students and volunteers come together on Bowman Field to construct a Habitat home. It’s a symbol of the community’s spirit of service, with students working tirelessly to fund and build a home that will become a place of stability for a local family. Once the Homecoming festivities wrap up, Forrest Movers takes on the critical task of transporting the house from the university to its permanent location in Pickens County.

This year's Homecoming Build, however, presented an extra challenge. Hurricane Helene had recently swept through the area, leaving a trail of downed trees and power lines in its wake. Moving a house is no easy feat under normal conditions, but this year’s obstacles made the process even more complex. Yet the team at Forrest Movers handled the situation with their usual expertise and determination, carefully navigating through storm damage to deliver the house safely.

2024 Community Partner Award

At the recent Homecoming Build Celebration, PCHFH Board President Alley Linder was eager to present the inaugural Community Partner Award to Forrest Movers. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, the team was unable to make the trip to Clemson. Despite their absence, their contributions were celebrated, recognizing the pivotal role they play in ensuring the success of the Homecoming Build each year.

Their in-kind contributions, valued at over $100,000, have been invaluable to Habitat’s mission, but their true impact goes far beyond that. Their commitment to seeing these homes reach the families who will live in them has been instrumental. Without Forrest Movers, the Homecoming Build would not be able to happen at all.

At Habitat, partnerships like the one we have with Forrest Movers remind us of the power of community. They don’t just help us move houses—they help us move toward our mission of providing affordable housing to those who need it most. With partners like them by our side, we know we can continue building homes and hope for families across Pickens County, no matter the challenges ahead.

Thank you to George and the entire team at Forrest Movers for making sure we can continue the Homecoming Build for years to come.
